What’s life like on a drilling rig

As part of Ensign’s drilling crews, you will be directly involved in keeping rigs safe, productive, and efficient. From rig-up to rig-down, your work will have a direct impact on your teammates, our clients, and the overall success of each well.

In this role, you will gain hands-on experience with advanced drilling rigs and develop the skills you need to advance your career in Wyoming’s oil and gas industry. The rig can be in remote locations, will require you to work in extreme weather conditions and have access to reliable transportation.

Responsibilities & Accountabilities

  • Commit to wearing required PPE and put safety first
  • Follow policies and established procedures at all times
  • Follow through with your assigned tasks for your role during key rig operations:
    • For example:
      • Operate tongs, slips, elevators, and pumps correctly
      • Assist with rig-up, rig-out, and drilling operations
      • Complete inspections and housekeeping tasks
      • Maintain work areas and complete daily checks
      • Communicate clearly and support shift handovers
  • Be prepared to work in extreme weather conditions
  • Take direction from supervisors and meet shift goals
  • Attend safety meetings and keep certifications current


What we’re looking for

  • Be at least 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in Canada
  • Have a valid Class 5 driver’s license
  • Be able to pass a physical, drug, and alcohol screening
  • Be physically capable of performing demanding rig work outdoors
  • Be willing to work rotational shifts in remote and camp-based locations


Required Certifications: H2S Alive, Standard First Aid, Common Safety Orientation (CSO), and WHMIS, Ensign may provide training support for applicants who do not yet hold these certifications.
